My newest work in the "away with the faeries" series investigates the sacred symbol of the spiral, not only as reflected in Celtic history, but within various ancient and recent cultures throughout history, as the oldest existing symbol of human spirituality. Spirals exist widely in nature, and have been used symbolically within many cultures since the beginning of human existence, combining mathematics and beauty. I began these works while an Artist in Residence at the haunting ancient landscape of the Burren in Ireland, and continued to create the works while at my last residency at the Ragdale Foundation. |
