I originally began painting to entertain myself after a 30 plus year career in social work. One of the side benefits of social work as a profession is the opportunity to experience other cultures. Mexico and its multiple ancient and varied cultures has always had an unwavering attraction for me. As I increased my exploration and expanded my knowledge of the art of other cultures I came to accept and enjoy that the elemental melding of (wo)man and nature through color and symbolism is what informs my work and gives me joy. It is my challenge to insert messages about contemporary social and political issues into my pieces. I hope that the work brings some of the contrast of old and new, serious and playful to the viewer. I work with found objects, paper mache and acrylics. My work appears in collections throughout the country. Much of it is done on a commission basis. Inquiries are welcome. |
