Utilizing fluid dynamics, the viscous properties of liquid allows the materials to sift and settle into each other. The environments I create are a balance between the order of the physical properties and playful chance. By obsessively mixing household chemicals into Petri dishes, the process becomes alchemy, conjuring painterly aesthetics into a photograph. The small interactions begin to resemble the reactions in our universe that happen on a much larger scale. The indistinct forms morph and react to each other in their surroundings, creating shifting layers of material that expand and pull together, similar to the ways gravity effects objects in space. Macro photography is used to capture these interactions of different liquid substances, to create organic compositions of obscure color and form. The ambiguity of the forms encourages a playful response from the viewer. Like watching clouds, the viewer can search for something familiar within the images, allowing a subconscious extraction from their own memories and imaginations. |
