Oxbow Series Walking through the forest, I see relationships between trees and their fallen branches. I notice a pile of branches balancing on a tree trunk. I study a rotten tree trunk eaten away by termites. Rowing a canoe, I see pylons with shimmering reflections perfectly aligned in the water. As I walk through a city, I become absorbed in the many angles created by architectural structures that jut out into the sky, and find their shadows fascinating. Reflections of buildings in a body of water, manmade objects hidden in a pile of foliage, wet leaves randomly, but perfectly arranged on a cement path, are among the relationships that intrigue me. My current work reflects the dynamics of opposition, harmony, textural differences, and structural forms. These shapes, textures, lines, and identifiable images are the visual vocabulary I use to compose dynamic contemporary prints. Color also plays an important role in creating friction, harmony, and emotion within these pieces, and contemporary printmaking techniques make each print unique and exciting on its own or in its relationship to the others. |
