I create my work in my studio near Urbandale, Iowa. The ‘encaustic on paper’ work is made by painting encaustic medium onto a heated palette, then “printing” over the medium with a print-quality paper. Techniques - such as adjusting temperature to the melt point of various pigmented waxes - coax the medium to express itself depending on its inherent qualities. The ‘encaustic on board’ pieces are many many layers of pigmented medium followed with heat from an iron, butane torch or heat gun. The application and degree of heat determines how the wax will move. It is this movement that creates the infinitely amazing patterns and designs. |
