The Assateague National Seashore Dunes on the Atlantic Ocean inspired a series of Dune paintings. The name may not be familiar, but Assateague, a barrier island, covers 39,630 acres with clean beaches, dense vegetation, and numerous birds of all sizes, deer and free roaming wild ponies. It extends south from Ocean City, Maryland to Chincoteague, Virginia where it is shaped and reshaped every year by storms, sand, salt and wind. The area remains a favorite to visitors and myself. If I ever tire of painting the ever-changing waves of shifting sand, the area is filled with graceful, meandering marshes to hold my attention. |
