I started The Altamont Series during a period of time in 1987 when I was taking a post baccalaureate course at the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California. I traveled Highway 580 over the Altamont Pass weekly, passing through the windmills—my gateway to the Bay Area. The course ended that semester, but I continued to paint my drive for two more years. Different elements like the time of day, light, air, atmosphere, darkness, wind and dust became of interest to me. |
