Firedancing is an ancient ritual that was practiced during festivals dedicated to the Sun. Selected people would fall into a trancelike state and dance upon open flames or embers to purify themselves and the gathered spectators. This practice was important for the community, as it was closely related to the cyclic change of seasons and the seemingly irreversible passage of time. Today, after many centuries, this ritual still exists to symbolize the triumph of the celestial over the chthonic and to vivify, enlighten and transform human bodies and minds throughout the world. |
