VA. de Pintor is a visual artist who works in several interdisciplinary areas: both 2D and 3D formats using oils, acrylics, encaustics among other materials. In choosing the format of the artworks de Pintor is drawn toward the media that best embodies and supports the idea. Often the works entomb cast-offs such as,peach pits, mango pods, cigarette butts, insects, bones and dried fish into molten wax [encaustic]. This waxing of found objects or cast-offs carry certain connotations intrinsic to the medium, which is then manipulated to suit a certain aesthetic. This infusion of materials of wax and/or paint lends itself to a wide range of tactile encounters.

It is difficult to categorize her work. The processes in creating work often involves collecting piles of objects and deciding on the best way to reconstruct them for presentations in works. Some recent pieces utilize cast-offs like packaged food boxes as subject matter that comments on conditions of wastefulness, over-consumption and excessiveness in contemporary life. Other works incorporate found elements [teeth, bones, wood] which make statements of a conceptual and sometimes humorous nature. For example, Michelangelo’s Molars which are teeth the artist found in Tuscany. Thus is a richness and depth on several levels to be explored in de Pintor’s works.
