I am a film/darkroom photographer. My work is about time. When I arrange shadows on my camera’s lens, then press its shutter, time, for a brief moment, is suspended; it is that ephemeral millisecond I capture on film, stolen memento mori, life made still.|
I focus my camera on the natural world, those things which affirm our connection to the earth: water, landscape, trees, sky, clouds, sun and moon. Conversely, I point my camera at hand made creations: graffiti, effigies, ornaments, objects, curios, and things we amass to fill our empty spaces, to quench our aloneness, till those spaces become glutted, and time cuts in to relieve us of the clutter.
My work is about living in a man-made Gods driven war torn universe and finding it painfully grotesque and then, too, poignantly wondrous, a veritable dark beauty.
In my darkroom, my alchemist haven, I narrate our lust for truth, connection, and permanence - like the cave painters of 30,000 years ago - I leave my mark in time.
