How dolphins find their way

She needles the water
stitching tight the crests
and clefts of wave, trying
to surround and still
the sounds that swirl
from the surface into the years
and glow in the phosphorescence.
Echoes tell her where to go
though she rests in the wake
of the ride and remembers
her own birth and the voice
that first told her to breathe
the one that just said swim.
