The Invented Figure exhibition (April 5 - May 16, 2002) juried by artist Judith Raphael inspired a wonderful reading held on May 5, 2002. This occasion also celebrated the release of a publication born out of the amazing writing that was originally submitted for the reading. Nina Corwin and Mary H. Ber co-edited the book, "Inhabiting the Body: A Collection of Poetry and Art by Women". Designed pro bono by Erin Konley, this beautiful book features 27 poets as well as nine artists from the Invented Figure exhibition. Copies are available ($10 each) in WMG's gift shop as well as from Moon Journal Press: maryhber@aol.com
CJ Laity of ChicagoPoetry.com writes in the article Divas Give Birth to Poetry: "Today's poetic celebration, which was in conjunction with the gallery's Invented Figure exhibit, turned out to be one of the finest
poetry readings I've seen so far this year, with 'voices exploring the female body in the twenty-first century' ranging from witty similes, to magical realism, to downright gut wrenching honesty. There wasn't a single
dull moment out of the line-up of twenty or so performing poets, proving that the work in this new volume is something well worth the $10 and something Chicago can cherish for a long, long time."
