My figurative watercolors on paper and oil paintings on canvas or fabric explore the ambiguity of play using female players.A connection emerges between the repeated poses and movements of ludic activities such as games, competitions and spontaneous eruptions of playful aggression, and the solemn or serious activities of labor, self defense, sports or battle.
The resulting images or accumulations reflect moments of pause or movement, the positions in a game; positions of transition, bodies in contact, cantilevered, momentum of collapse or collision, moments where grace is gone, balance tips and gravity acts.
Through an accumulation of events iconic gestures surface, conflict is resolved, a winner emerges and a loser retreats. . (CA)
