I have expanded my work from creating designs on objects (functional art) to expressing myself through images. I hand-cut all stained glass and ceramic pieces and blend all cement and mortar colors to make each piece unique and one of a kind. I do not follow any specific technique other than trying to “feel” the piece that I am working on. If I don’t feel that connection it is difficult, and at times painful to continue and/or complete the piece.
Growing up I had ventured into different mediums of art (writing and photography) and while I enjoyed them very much it was more cathartic than a career option. One medium that has always appealed to me is mosaic art. I have memories from my teenage years of a mosaic studio I passed on my way to and from school, and clearly remember a clown displayed in the window. Throughout my life I have always been attracted to this art and finally decided to create my own. I wanted to take my ideas and recreate them using a method that allowed for imperfection, and stir the same emotions in others that I have felt myself. In spring of 2000 I created my first piece, “Fluid Creature”, a dolphin. Since then I have created over 100 works and, like my passion for the art, my portfolio continues to grow.
