Whether working with the wheel or handbuilding, it is the tactile nature of the clay body that is so appealing to me. For this reason, I often (but not always) leave my fired pieces unglazed and unmarked so that one gets a true sense of the medium's properties. Porcelain in particular allows for a delicate, translucent finish, countering the speckled and grogged stoneware left in its natural state. (Fairfax, VA)
