In this work from the “Remnant” series, I use wood which has a history, having been broken by karate chops, saved for years before the concept crystallized. The wood is covered with canvas in such a way to suggest layers and divisions. I have collected and used old frames, buttons, nails, rice paper and Sumi ink.

My process of scraping, abrading and reworking the surface creates a visual history, part of a continuing dialogue between artist, materials, process and viewer.
