My tendency is to keep the world at arm’s length. Taking pictures allows me access into various worlds; I observe, anonymously, behind the camera--in the world, yet never quite of it. What I search to discover is the unconscious, pure and true experience at a given moment, usually in privacy and isolation, abandonment and desolation. Although I do photograph mostly people, I am attracted to places that have the same qualities that draw me to take pictures of people. My cityscapes are portraits of the souls that inhabit or at one time inhabited those spaces. In every case, I want the subject of the image honestly represented and left very much intact.
