My self-portrait mural, “Your fantasy is as much you as any other part of you”, is from my solo show, "Secret Garden", and is dedicated to women living in emergency shelters I am inspired by their courage, when they dare to dream of living in safety, giving their children a good life, being loved in a functional way, and of finally being able to be safely sexual. I grew up in the wild interior of BC, Canada, a shy child who found hideaways amongst the trees and in the blue clay of the creek. I continue to seek solace and contentment in my pottery studio.For this slab-built terracotta mural, I have used cone 04 glazes, underglazes, terra sigillata and inks. After bisque/glaze firing, I smoked it lightly in paper towel and tinfoil. The title is from the ‘70’s book "My Secret Garden", by Nancy Friday, who describes “a hidden place where ordinary women are free to express the sexual dreams they have never dared to confide before”. I am proud to share a favorite piece of my "Secret Garden" with you.
